  • PointerRescue.Org, Inc. (PRO) is a non-profit group of coordinators and volunteers across the United States dedicated to the rescue of purebred Pointers (sometimes called English or American Field Pointers).

It is hoped that this site will provide a common place for the posting of information on Pointers in need of adoptive or foster homes, and a way for persons who would like to adopt or foster a Pointer to find a suitable dog.

Fergie is good with kids and other dogs.

PointerRescue.Org, Inc. (PRO) is a non-profit group dedicated to the rescue of purebred Pointers (sometimes referred to as English Pointers or American Field Pointers). Hundreds of these wonderful dogs are dumped in shelters or abandoned every year.
As such, we are unable to assist with mixed-breed dogs,
or other pointing breeds such as
     German Shorthaired Pointers.

Photographs: Photographs are required for any dog to be accepted into our rescue program. Photographs should consist of a standing side view of the dog that includes the dog's entire body and tail, a frontal view of the dog and a close up head profile. All photographs should be taken at the "dog's level" rather than from above, looking down. It is best to submit photographs without obstructions such as chain link fencing or crates. Once you submit your form, you will be contacted by a PRO representative with instructions for submitting photographs.

Heartworm Test: All dogs submitted for foster placement in our organization MUST be heartworm tested. PLEASE NOTE THAT A POSITIVE TEST WILL NOT DISQUALIFY A DOG FOR PLACEMENT IN ONE OF OUR FOSTER HOMES. However, knowing whether or not a dog is heartworm positive will assist us in ensuring each dog is placed in the appropriate foster setting for it's specific needs.
Time: Please give us as much advance notice as possible. We are a scattered nationwide network of volunteers and foster homes and do not have a centralized facility in which to place dogs who are in immediate jeopardy. We do not have the resources available to assist dogs who are in danger of being euthanized in a short period of time.
Cross-Posting: If you are a private foster home or with another rescue group and wish to have a pointer listed on our website for additional exposure, please fill out the form and we will be glad to assist.
Owner Give-Ups: If you are an owner giving up your dog, please be aware that there are special requirements and a fee for posting non-rescue/shelter/humane organization listings. You will be contacted by a PRO representative about these requirements/fee once you submit your form and prior to your information being posted.

  • Fostering: PRO does not have a facility. In order to save any dogs, we need people who are willing to open their homes to them. If you have a little extra room and a little extra love, please consider fostering.

Transportation: Volunteers are needed to help transport dogs to their foster or adoptive homes. Enjoy some puppy love while helping a dog start a new life! We also need help planning and monitoring transports.

Incoming Dog Coordinator: We need assistance working with shelters and other groups who need our help with dogs in need. Volunteers receive information about dogs in need and work with the shelter and PRO Foster Coordinator to place dogs in foster homes.

Getting the "Woof" Out: Know of a dog-related event happening in your area? PRO always needs volunteers to spread the word about the work we do. PRO has brochures and other materials available to help publicize our work.

PRO also has need for volunteers to perform a variety of other tasks that help keep a rescue running: screening potential adopters and foster homes, following up with adopters to see how the dogs are doing, performing vet and reference checks, generating fundraising ideas, writing newsletter articles and all the other little things that add up to saving dogs. We are a 100% volunteer organization and we are grateful for all of our volunteers who enable us to do the work we do saving lives. Even if you can only spare a few minutes, we'd love to have you come join our team.

  • My name is Cookie. I am 5 years old, but like most females, I think I am 2 years old. I love to run, sleep and my favorite - bathe in the sun. I am completely house broken and never had an accident in my foster home. I have never been on furniture and prefer not to be. I don’t mind being in a kennel during the day, as I am safe there, but if you leave me out, all I will do is sleep, I promise, and not bother anything. I am a hoarder, if you leave something laying on the floor, I will kindly keep it safe in my kennel for you until you need it. I currently weigh 44 pounds, and love to be called “Cookie Monster”. I wag my tail a lot and love to do circles in the yard, oh and ride in trucks with the window down! I love all dogs, but if you have a bird or sugarglider, I will kindly keep an “EYE” on it for you. (wink, wink). I do not bark, and strangers are just fine to give me some attention. I don’t mind kids, but I am not a cuddler, I'd rather be petted than held. My foster mom says I am the perfect “houseguest” and wishes all her kids were as sweet and well behaved as me, including her 2 legged ones.
